I recently had a brilliant weekend visiting the sights of Manchester!

My wonderful husband Martin and his colleague, Tiggs, came joint 18th out of all the Peugeot customer advisors in the UK. The Top 50 got a special invite to the party of the year, a masquerade ball at The Palace Hotel in Manchester.

The hunt for a spectacular mask therefore began just after Christmas!

We had the most beautiful room at the hotel & the food and wine was to die for. The entertainment and band made the night and it was wonderful to see all the different dresses & masks!

Thank you to Peugeot for holding such an enjoyable & fabulous masquerade ball and congratulations to Martin and Tiggs for doing so well.

We also had a sneaky look at the Manchester United stadium and a quick nosy in the shop.

Thought I would include a pic for you all to see our great masks, I was so proud of us all.

Every Monday Nikki Berryman – our Practice Manager at Pure Dental – posts about her plans and experiences from the past week.

‘Back at work today after spending a lovely few days in Paris. I am lucky enough to work with a great team of girls who are ALL fab at what they do. So I came back to find everything had been running really well and everything was organised.
.
But, is it just me?  Where does all this paperwork come from?? It took a day to catch up. Time to practice what I preach and look at time management and prioritising tasks.
.
There are always those tasks that I try to put off – are you the same? My trick now is to come in fresh, 1st thing, and do the one task I am dreading straight away and have it completed by mid-morning at the latest.
.
For any of you that have problems with time management or procrastination, please read ‘Eat that Frog’ by Brian Tracy. The title of the book comes from an old Mark Twain quote, saying that if the first thing you do is eat a frog, you will do nothing worse the rest of the day. Tracy likens the frog in this quote to the main priority that must be completed each day. And if there are two equally-important tasks, eat the uglier frog, or complete the task that seems most daunting or difficult first. Once “the frog” has been eaten, the rest of the day will run much smoother. Try It! Have a good week!’

Today’s Team Blog comes from Livvy -

I picked up my wedding dress from the seamstress recently and it is even more beautiful than I remembered it to be… albeit a little snug!

It is all beginning to feel very real now, only 4 months to go and still SO much to do.

.
So far this year I have broken pretty much every New Year’s Resolution!

“No alcohol for the whole of January” – broken after 6 days.

“Start running as from January 1st” – don’t even know where my trainers are…

“Lose Christmas pounds” – gained at least a couple more!
I don’t know why I even bothered making them in the first place… But seriously now, as from February I will be attempting all of the above…. and failing!

Hope everyone has had a great start to 2012.  I’ve heard faint rumours of a long, hot summer this year…here’s hoping!

‘Having mentioned that 2012 is the year of ‘DIY’ in our house, my brother – who has his own landscape gardening business in Bristol – has kindly offered to come down in March and build us a new fence and gate in our garden!

I can’t wait to get out and clear all the winter leaves from the garden and get our little veg patch ready for this year’s crops!

Last year we grew carrots, shallots, peas, lettuce, garlic and strawberries and potatoes. The runner beans were a failure!

I think we will do something similar this year and grow tomatoes as well to make into chutney in a few months’ time.

There is definitely something satisfying about seeing your veg patch out of your kitchen window and picking and eating your own produce.’

Every Monday Nikki Berryman – our Practice Manager at Pure Dental – posts about her plans and experiences from the past week.

‘Its been another busy week here at Pure Dental. This week we have had all our vacuum autoclaves and washer/disinfectors serviced and validated for HTM01-05 compliance.

I do remember a time when autoclaves took very little time to be serviced, however, current guidelines now mean that it takes an engineer a whole day.

I also carried out our monthly water quality checks and completed our Legionella and Water Quality Control regime table – this entailed checking and recording water temperature from every outlet in the practice, and also reviewing the condition and state of repair of the water tanks –important and necessary, but time consuming!

We also had our monthly team meeting this week. I break down our meetings into sections, H&S, Patient Care, Safety & Quality, Business & Marketing, Team Training and General Info – this system works really well. If I don’t have anything specific to discuss under a heading, then we will review and discuss policies and procedures already in place to ensure all team members are up to date and that patient care is at the forefront of our service delivery. I also use team meetings as a tool to ensure CQC compliance.

Anyway, phew! Enough from me, I will be in Paris this week enjoying a break!!! Have a great week everyone.’

‘Happy New Year to you all! I hope you had an enjoyable Christmas.

I had a wonderful, but quiet day with my in-laws. This year I began Christmas morning with a cooked breakfast from my husband, which included bacon, scallops and poached eggs with a glass of champagne!!!

I’m hoping this will become a regular Christmas day occurrence!

We saw in 2012 with a geat black-tie do at The Greenbank Hotel with two of our friends, Richard and Clare. There were fireworks, chinese lanterns and lots of food and dancing.

My New Year’s Resolution is to pass my sedation examination in September, so watch this space for updates…’

Today’s Team Blog is a double act – from Jeremy and Lucy!

‘Short term orthodontic treatment using Six Month Smiles is proving to be effective and very popular for people of all ages!

It also appears to be more feasible and predictable than other systems.

The system itself is very well thought out, with professionally supplied individual treatment kits and a superb support and advice scheme.

I can’t recommend this treatment highly enough – it brings a lot of fun back to dentistry!’

‘I have recently had the Six Month Smile brace fitted by Jeremy on my upper and lower teeth to help straighten them, and I have to say I am already very used to them!

They are tooth coloured wires and brackets that are fixed on to the front six teeth and gradually orientate the teeth into the desired position over the course of  between four-eight months.

I have already noticed slight movements to my teeth and gradually Jeremy will add a thicker wire to bring the teeth back more.

The beauty of Six Month Smiles is that no-one notices I have them until they are standing right next to me! I can’t wait to see the final result in a few months time.’

Every Monday Nikki Berryman – our Practice Manager at Pure Dental – will post about her plans and experiences from the past week.

‘This week has been so busy here at Pure Dental Health & Wellbeing, and not without it’s ups and downs either!
.
Our compressor went down with a major fault in it’s motor earlier in the week, luckily we have a spare compressor wired in and ready to go, however, we were really unlucky in that the spare decided to blow as well!
.
Luckily, we have a great relationship with our service engineers and they were on hand to help asap, and so our ‘down time’ was kept to a bare minimum.
.
We also had a new central heating boiler installed in our offices upstairs, so we’ve had workmen coming and going all week!
.
The whole ‘behind the scenes’ has been a bit chaotic to say the least. However, it is a reflection on my fabulous team that we have kept the practice operating to the best possible standards – our main priority being that our patients and their care/experience is not affected.
.
Fingers crossed for a smoother beginning to this week………..!’

‘I had a very relaxed weekend last week watching my partner, Sam, play rugby for Roseland RFC.

The match was against Helston at Helston RFC, unfortunately Roseland lost but it was a really exciting and close game.

Sam has also decided to teach me how to play squash. I couldn’t even hit the ball for the first 10 minutes! But after an hour or so I was able to play a whole game and even won a few sets – Sam called it beginners luck, typical!

I’m a bit sore today, but hope to start playing once or twice a week on top of my football. My fitness regime for the New Year!’

‘I have some great news; on the 2nd of January 2012, my boyfriend Grant asked me to marry him!!!

We had a lovely quiet Christmas with my parents and my brother came down from Bristol. New Years Eve was spent with friends at Gyllingvase Beach Café in Falmouth where they had fantastic fireworks at midnight and a great band to dance the night away to.

Now Grant and I are engaged we need to set a date and start planning! 2012 is going to be one busy year for us what with me taking my driving test (at some point!) and I’ve joked with Grant, ‘this IS the year for DIY’! and now……… Wedding planning!

Exciting times ahead! So if any of you lovely patients have any quirky wedding ideas, please come in and share them with me and the girls!!’
