Spring has definitely sprung today. It’s so beautiful outside!  My fiancée is now home from working in France so we can get out in our garden and get it ready for the summer.  Thanks to my brother we now have a brand spanking new fence and we recently bought some new garden furniture.  If the weather carries on like this it won’t be long before the barbeque makes an appearance!

Last weekend I went off to Bristol to see my best friend from my ‘uni days’ (feels like a lifetime ago now) she is also one of my bridesmaids so it was great to catch up.

I am now half way through my 6 Month Smiles treatment and am really pleased with the results so far, it is definitely working and I can’t believe how quickly time has gone. I am so excited about seeing my smile once the braces come off!

Every Monday Nikki Berryman – our Business Development Manager at Pure Dental – posts about her plans and experiences from the past week.

‘We had our annual Fire Safety Training here at Pure Dental last week.

We use a local company that take care of all our Fire Protection needs from our alarm system, fire blankets through to our on-site training. They provide a really excellent, comprehensive service that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

However I have the overall responsibility of audit, maintenance and review procedures. This involves scheduling maintenance/repairs of all equipment, scheduling training, carrying our quarterly risk assessments, reviewing the Fire Prevention Plan, monthly fire alarm ‘practice’ and daily testing of the alarms.

Of course in terms of CQC, these procedures need to be carefully documented and audited. So how do we as PMs keep on track with ongoing audits and reviews of our management procedures? The answer is robust systems – time management systems and scheduling systems.

Implementing effective systems in your practice will save so much time – I have already scheduled out 3 days next month to review all risk assessments, review and make changes to our Recruitment and Selection procedures and to review the Team Training Plans. Systems ensure control and efficiency. Are all your systems up to date?’

‘Hiya, hope everyone is having a great start to the year?

I’ve just been chatting with Nikki and we realised that we are already a quarter of the way through 2012.  There’s only 70 days to go until my big day and only 2 weeks until my hen do.  Something tells me that there’s going to be a few surprises in store for me that night!  I feel very lucky to have such fab bridesmaids organising it all for me.  We will be sure to get some photos up for you to see.

We booked our honeymoon at the weekend as well, I have always dreamed of going to the Maldives so I was over the moon when my fiancé said that we could book to go there.  We are spending a fortnight on the Kuredu island resort in one of those water bungalows so we will be able to watch all the tropical fish, rays and even sharks swim by underneath our room!  I simply cannot wait to go!  Although by the time we get back it will be nearly Christmas again… unreal!

Speak again soon!’

Every Monday Nikki Berryman – our Business Development Manager at Pure Dental – posts about her plans and experiences from the past week.

‘Another fab week at Pure last week, culminating in Jeremy and I travelling to London on Friday to listen to Chris Barrow talk about Implant marketing, at a seminar hosted by Bio- Horizons at Portland Square.

It was a great session and lovely to meet such a fab group of people. I thought that we had a fairly good handle on marketing techniques at the practice, but as usual there is always something new to learn.

This got me to thinking about training and in particular, personal development for practice managers/business managers. I’m sure that you have robust training and development plans in place for your team, but what about yourself? When did you last assess your strengths and weaknesses? The business of dentistry is rapidly changing and developing and so we need to ensure that we are always one step ahead of the game.

Alongside more formal courses and training, ask yourself this; whose blogs are you reading? What newspapers are you reading? Ask for recommendations for books in leadership / development /management; are you networking outside of the practice? Do you have a mentor? If not, get one and ask him/her for honest feedback on your performance and where your strengths and weaknesses lie.

So, a challenge for today – start thinking about your own Personal Development Plan…’

Well at last I am beginning to see some daylight through my window when the alarm goes off for work in the morning and I can’t begin to explain how good that feels! Nick says that I am almost bearable in the mornings now…he jokes of course! :)

.
Spring really is in the air, and there’s a real sense of anticipation and enthusiasm at Pure Dental at the moment, regarding all the great things happening at the practice and the (hopefully) long and beautiful summer ahead.

.
Nikki has been busily organising my hen-do, which I cannot begin to thank her enough for, she really is the best bridesmaid you could wish for! Super-organised, super decisive and super fun!  The hen-do is only 4 weeks away now and although I know the theme, I have absolutely no idea what else is in store and I am seriously excited!

.
Nick and I booked our honeymoon this weekend as well, we have booked 2 weeks at the Kuredu Resort in the Maldives and I am still in a little bit of shock about it!  We aren’t going until the 4th of November but it gives us something huge to look forward to once the wedding is over.  So far 2012 is shaping up to be a wonderful year! :)

Every Monday Nikki Berryman – our Practice Manager at Pure Dental – posts about her plans and experiences from the past week.

‘Morning everyone. Is it just me or does the year seem to be going really quickly? Mid-March already!
.
I don’t know about you but the lighter mornings and evenings allow me to cram a little more into my working day, which I guess can only be a good thing.
.
This week saw the launch of the Pure Study Club for 2012 after a very successful series of events during 2011. The first speaker was Nigel Reece from Dental Design Ltd. Nigel spoke to our group for a couple of hours about internet marketing, websites, SEO, pay per click Google advertising and of course social media.
.
However, one of the most important factors of any kind of marketing is ROI (return on investment). There is absolutely no point at all spending money on any kind of marketing activity without it a) being planned and budgeted for, and b) calculating the ROI.
.
Knowing your numbers and what works for you in terms of marketing investment will allow you to become much more focused and streamlined in your marketing strategy. Marketing only works if it is planned, budgeted, reviewed and assessed; poor & uninformed marketing is probably worse than none at all.
.
Have you got a marketing strategy in place for your practice?
.
Have a great week!’

‘Hi all,

I have had a wonderful weekend away with the Pure team visiting the Dentistry Show at the NEC in Birmingham. It was great to meet new people and finally put some faces to names.

I enjoyed listening to the lectures and collecting the CPD hours, but in particular I enjoyed watching Jason’s lecture: it was nice to understand his achievements.

It also made me feel proud to have the opportunity to work alongside him as his Dental Nurse when he produces such great work’.

This was the first time I have attended the Dentistry Show and it was a lot bigger and busier than I anticipated, with something there for everyone from practice managers, dental nurses & lab technicians to aesthetic dentists & implantologists.  There was even “live surgery”.

.
I particularly enjoyed visiting all of the trade stands and checking out all the latest dental innovations, there really was so much to see and do, with lots of freebies and samples along the way.

.
It was also great to spend some quality time with our fantastic team and catch up with some of our friends from dental practices and dental companies across the country, both during the show and also at the unofficial “after party” at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. We all had such a giggle.

.
I for one will definitely be volunteering to attend again in 2013!

Every Monday Nikki Berryman – our Practice Manager at Pure Dental – posts about her plans and experiences from the past week.

‘Back to work today after a really crazy but fun week!

On Thursday the whole Pure Dental team travelled to Birmingham to attend the Dentistry Show at the NEC on Friday and Saturday. What a great couple of days! There was a fantastic buzz surrounding the Show and it was obvious that a lot of people had put a lot of hard work into making it happen.

There was a great line-up of speakers including Brendon from Apex Media who spoke about the importance of social media; our very own Jason Smithson who delivered a very powerful presentation on composite resin restorations, Nigel Reece from Dental Design about Marketing Strategies and Websites and one highlight was Howard Farran’s highly engaging presentation on profitable dentistry, which raised a few eyebrows to say the least!

One common theme running throughout the two days was ‘customer care’ and how we look after our patients. From a management point of view, the role of Treatment Coordinator is an extremely effective customer relations tool.

The obvious benefit of having a well-trained TCO at your practice is absolutely sales orientated; but in addition to that, you are providing outstanding levels of customer care to your patients; they can be given limitless one-to-one sessions with an experienced member of your team who can discuss treatment options, risks/benefits, consent, fears/anxieties, finance and scheduling. What a fantastic service to be able to offer your patients, at NO COST!

In my view, providing great dentistry is also about building relationships and how we look after our patients outside of the dental chair, a TCO facility in my view is an absolute must in any contemporary dental practice’.

‘Hi all!

Well there’s just 13 weeks to go until my wedding day and still SO much to do.  Fortunately the majority of the plans are already set but it’s all those little bits and pieces put together that create a ‘to do list’ as long as your arm!

Nikki and I are going to have to start planning the hen-do soon too as it’s booked for the beginning of April and we are nearly in March already! How quickly time is flying…

Rufus is doing really well, still coming in to work with me and getting lots of cuddles and fuss from all the team, he races eagerly down the road to work every morning with his tail high in the air full of anticipation of all the attention he is about to receive. Monkey!

By the time you read this blog the team will have been up to Birmingham to attend the Dentistry Show 2012 at the NEC.  This week we have all been really looking forward to it and to spending some quality time with each other.  Find out in our subsequent blogs how we all got on, what we saw and who inspired us!

Take care.’
