Occlusion & The Way We Bite
At Pure, we know that an unbalanced bite can cause a lot of pain; pain which quite often the patient believes isn’t linked to their mouth. People can suffer for a long time without realising that their pain could be easily fixed through occlusion assessment.
You may question whether your bite is off? Follow this simple method to check.
Curl your tongue up and back to touch the roof of the mouth. Then, very slowly, bite together. Stop when you feel a tooth/teeth touch. Ask yourself how many teeth are touching, is it all of them? If the answer’s no then unfortunately you have a bite problem which is likely to lead to the development of dental issues in the future. These problems could already be present without you realising, or they may take years to develop. At Pure Dental Health we believe it’s better to fix something before it breaks completely; after all we only get one set of adult teeth.
Occlusion is taken very seriously at Pure. Our knowledgeable dentists are able to examine the health and functionality of your whole mouth and make recommendations on how to achieve a healthy bite (a bite where all our teeth hit at the same time). This is important because a stable occlusion means balanced forces which is likely to improve the longevity of your teeth whilst reducing the chances of painful dental problems developing in the future.
Temporomandibular Disorders or TMD
At Pure Dental Health we recognise the importance of quality equipment and products; it is for this reason that we have selected Cerezen™ to aid our patients who are suffering with Temporomandibular Disorders or TMD.
Cerezen™ is a revolutionary medical device used to treat symptoms that are associated with teeth grinding and clenching such as jaw pain. The two devices sit in each of your ear canals, which are the nearest access points to the temporomandibular joint. The thought of something sitting in your ear may sound daunting, but these small hollow devices are custom-made to fit comfortably within your ear. You won’t even know they’re there.
It may seem odd that an insert located in the ear canal can impact the jaw. These devices work because they retain the shape of your ear canal in the open jaw position, therefore encouraging the jaw to return to an open bite position. The result? A reduction in grinding, clenching and a decreased level of pain.
If you’d like to learn more about Cerezen™ or if you think you’re suffering from TMJ, call Pure Dental Health today.
