What are ceramic fillings?

Ceramic fillings, also known as porcelain fillings or ceramic inlays and onlays, are made from high-quality ceramic materials and customised to match your natural tooth colour for a seamless, aesthetic finish.

How are ceramic or porcelain fillings done?

A ceramic or porcelain filling, such as an inlay or onlay, usually requires two visits to the dentist. During the first visit, any decay or damage is removed and a temporary filling is placed while your custom ceramic restoration is created. At your second appointment, the temporary filling is removed and the new ceramic filling is bonded securely to your tooth and adjusted to ensure a comfortable, natural fit.

How much does a ceramic filling cost?

A ceramic filling can cost up to £450-£950.

Advantages of porcelain fillings (ceramic fillings)

A porcelain filling is a good option if you’re looking for the below:

  • Natural finish, as they can be coloured to match the exact hue of your teeth — although other fillings like the composite white filling can too
  • With proper care, a ceramic (or porcelain) filling can last between 15 and 20 years
  • Less toxic than traditional fillings
  • More stain resistant, as long as you brush regularly
