Laura's experience
Graduating with honors from the University of Central Lancashire, Laura became a dentist a little later in life. She completed a degree in Microbiology first and had a short career as a secondary school teacher. It was this that prompted an interest in caring for children (just not 30 at once!). Laura worked in special care and paediatric dental services before joining the team at Pure. Originally from Cumbria, Laura is settling into Cornish life and appreciates recommendations for the best pasty and places to visit.
Driven by her love for research, Laura had a successful Undergraduate career. During her BDS degree, she won multiple awards from dental societies including the British Society of Periodontology, British Society of Endodontology and SAAD. Through her hard work and dedication, she achieved honors in her degree.
With multiple publications under her belt, Laura has worked with leading experts to answer questions around big public health issues and also the treatment of clinical problems. Whilst these endeavours are academic in nature, the aim of this is ultimately to provide better care for her patients.
Since graduating she has gained experience in treating patients with complex medical histories and conditions. She enjoys helping people who are anxious to overcome their fears of the dentist and finds this incredibly rewarding. She has recently completed her SAAD sedation course and looks forward to using this as an additional tool to benefit her patients. She also worked in paediatric dental services, which complemented her career as a teacher and here she learned the huge benefits of optimising children’s dental health and fostering positive dental experiences from a young age.
Laura has completed the Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons Part 1 exam and is currently studying hard for Part 2 of the exam this year. She is currently completing courses in composite restorations and provision of indirect restorations such as crowns, with Incidental Training. It is set to be a very busy year!
