Dental Checkups, Keeping Your Smile Healthy

A dental checkup involves a comprehensive assessment of your overall oral health, including your gums, jaw, and soft tissues. Routine dental checkups are vital for spotting and addressing potential problems before they become more serious.

What happens during a dental checkup?

During a dental check-up, your dentist will thoroughly examine your mouth, teeth, and gums for any signs of problems. This typically starts with a visual inspection to check for tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health issues.

After a thorough examination, we may take X-rays to detect problems not visible to the naked eye, such as decay between teeth or below the gum line. Your dental checkup will also screen for oral cancer, examine existing dental work, and discuss any concerns or recommended treatments.

Your dentist will consider your unique oral health situation when determining the ideal frequency for your checkups. We usually recommend having a dental checkup every six months but might recommend more regular checkups if you have evidence of gum disease or regular tooth decay issues.
